Zoetis, the world's largest Animal Health company is looking for a qualified individual to fill the role of Licensed Veterinary Technician supporting the Veterinary Service Group at the Veterinary Medicine Research and Development (VMRD) world headquarters in Kalamazoo and Richland Michigan.

The licensed veterinary technician is a critical role in the day-to-day animal facility operations and portfolio execution.This position will support the companion animal operations in a research environment. Primary species of responsibility are dogs and cats but may also include cross-support with other species. The position requires the proper use and maintenance of all necessary equipment and follow appropriate techniques as determined by departmental SOPs and institutional Policies.Full commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion is expected and the embodiment of these behaviors while performing all functions of the role is core to Zoetis culture.

The role of the Licensed Veterinary Technician as a part of the Veterinary Service Group includes but is not limited to performing:

  • Inventory control

  • Medical case management

  • Colony diet and weight management

  • Colony preventive health management, scheduling, and administration

  • Daily detailed observations and recording in electronic medical records

  • Animal husbandry

  • Attendance at Veterinary Service meetings

  • Attendance and participation in clinical rounds

  • Attendance at pre study meetings

  • Working on miscellaneous projects for veterinary services

  • Regulatory paperwork as needed

  • Dental and surgical procedures including all pre-operative preparation, perioperative and post-operative care and monitoring on animals

  • Anesthesia monitoring

  • Training of animal care technicians for companion animal observations, husbandry, and procedures

  • Technical procedures include but are not limited to blood draws on companion animal species, urine collection, TPR and triage examination, IV catheterization, fluid admiration, hospitalization and ICU care, euthanasia and necropsy support, diagnostic testing including in house bloodwork, fecal exams and urinalysis

  • Study specific procedures may include but are not limited to administration of investigational products, monitoring of animals, surgical support for surgical models, sedation or anesthesia support for models, blood collection

  • Lab and veterinary equipment maintenance

This individual will be required to work weekends, evenings and/or holidays at a frequency that is dictated by the needs of the Veterinary Service Group but may include up to every other weekend.

Qualifications:

Hold a valid license in Veterinary Technology from an accredited institution.

At least one year of experience as a licensed veterinary technician.

Desired Attributes:

Proven track record of working well in a team setting.

Experience and success with multiple veterinary procedures in a research environment.

Experience working with animal models.

Flexibility, enthusiasm and adaptability within the work environment, and a track record of successfully working in a fast-paced setting involving multiple projects and tasks.
