Overview

This position assists the Controller to produce and maintain timely and accurate financial statements and works to develop, maintain and improve the Company's internal controls over financial reporting.

    Assist the Controller in the direction of the accounting function of the Company
  • Provide leadership and management to a team of manager and staff level accountants
  • Develop personnel through training, evaluation and pro-active feedback to enhance performance and individual development
  • Lead the monthly closing process to ensure an accurate and timely financial closing cycle
  • Identify and implement process improvement ideas which improve internal controls and financial reporting processes
  • Perform technical research over various complex accounting or reporting matters
  • Direct the accounting policies of the Company's Store operations, ensuring consistency and compliance with accounting rules and regulations
  • Serve as a resource to other functional areas as well as to the Company's store personnel
  • Follow all safety rules and regulations while performing work assignments
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 7+ years' accounting or financial related work and/or related military experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles and practices and SOX internal control requirements
  • Strong understanding of business practices
  • Demonstrated success in developing and leading people to positive business outcomes
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational, time management and multi-tasking skills
  • High degree of initiative and self-motivation
  • Ability to handle and resolve interpersonal conflict
  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced, stressful work environment
  • Ability to respond quickly, accurately, and professionally to demands and requests from customers and employees
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of time and work flexible hours
  • Keen attention to detail, high level of initiative, and the ability to work independently
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint

Preferred:

  • CPA and/or CMA designation
  • Experience with SEC Reporting and SOX Compliance
  • Management experience
  • Experience with JD Edwards or e-Emphasys
  • Experience with IT and building systems and processes
  • Knowledge and experience with inventory accounting
