Responsible for placing safety as #1 priority in day-to-day work routine for self and others. Provides direction and support regarding the implementation of real-time actions on the distribution electric system ensuring the system is operated in a stable and reliable manner compliant with all Federal, State, and Company standards, requirements, and guidelines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Electric Distribution System Operator: ($79,760 - $99,700)

  • Must possess a working knowledge of distribution utility operations and maintenance normally acquired through two-year degree in an electrical discipline or one year of electric system control center experience; and
  • Three years of prior field utility experience related to Electric Distribution Systems.

Electric Distribution System Operator Sr: ($91,710 - 114,640)

  • Must possess a working knowledge of distribution utility operation and maintenance normally acquired through a two-year degree in an electrical discipline or one year of electric system control center experience; and
  • Five-years of prior field utility experience related to Electric Distribution Systems.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Must take all measures necessary to protect networks, devices, programs and data from cyber-attack, damage or unauthorized access.
  • May be required to maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Due to the need for unescorted access to security sensitive business locations and/or systems, must submit to periodic background checks.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States, no sponsorships considered.
  • Subject to pre-employment drug testing and background checks.
  • Open to remote locations wherever MDU operates business.
  • Must be NERC Certified within 9 months of being hired.
JOB RESPONSIBILTIES
  • Maintains the real time Distribution Management System (DMS) operational map used to view and manage the electric distribution system network as it is electrically operated in the field. Works directly with the field personnel to ensure the electric distribution operational map is kept accurate when changes are made in the field to the operation of the electric distribution system network.
  • Monitors and operates the Outage Management System (OMS) to detect and respond to electric distribution outages. Analyzes and troubleshoots outage in the OMS system to direct field personnel in responding to the outage and restore electric service to customers in a safe, reliable, and efficient manner.
  • Follows a standardized clearance procedure to issue clearance numbers and provide work direction to field personnel.
  • Coordinates scheduled and unscheduled field work with field personnel including Service Techs, Line Techs and electric Field supervisors to resolve a diverse array of emergency situations on a daily basis and to control the electric distribution facilities in a safe, reliable, and efficient manner.
  • Monitors, responds, and acknowledges SCADA alarms, where critical alarms must be reported a timely fashion to entities responsible for the critical alarm.
  • Performs other tasks and special projects as assigned.
