Primary Responsibilities

The primary duties of the System Protections and Studies EIT/Designer position are to perform engineering tasks with varying levels of complexity related to electrical transmission, substation, and distribution system protection concepts. These tasks would be assigned and managed by a Senior Engineer or Project Manager.

In the role of System Protections and Studies EIT/Designer, we'll count on you to:

  • Conduct analyses, calculations, and develop recommendations associated with electrical system protection concepts including but not limited to:
  • Electrical system models development, evaluations, and/or updates.
  • Short circuit current calculations.
  • Fault and device coordination studies.
  • System protection setting recommendations.
  • Arc flash incident energy calculations.
  • System event analyses.
  • Equipment ratings evaluations.
  • Perform routine engineering and design tasks and participate in field reviews or construction observation.
  • Work under the direct supervision of a Senior Engineer or PM.
  • May work independently on small tasks and may assist senior engineers on larger, more complex projects.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related engineering degree
  • Previous internship beneficial
  • EIT certification strongly preferred. Candidates hired without their EIT will have the title of "Coordinator" and will be expected to obtain their EIT for career progression
  • Strong computer skills using AutoCAD and Microsoft Office
  • Desire to pursue growth opportunities and obtain registration
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related enginering degree
  • Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm
  • Experience and/or interest in sustainable design/LEED desired but not required
  • 1+ years of experience working directly with electrical system modeling and/or short circuit study software such as CAPE, ASPEN, CYME, ETAP, WindMil, Synergi, or SKM is strongly desired.
  • 2+ years of experience doing electrical power system analysis, electrical system planning, protective device application, settings and substation design is highly preferred.
  • Previous experience with utility engineering or engineering consulting firm is desired.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, MicroStation a plus.
  • Preference given to local candidates.
