Job Description


The Software Engineer Intern is a sophomore, junior or senior level college student studying computer science/engineering or electrical engineering. As a member of the CP Software Engineering team, the Intern will gain experience solving a progression of easy to increasingly harder software tasks where the tasks comprise resolving documented software defects to developing functions based on the Intern's experience. In addition, the Intern will rotate into Software Test and learn the basics of software testing by executing designed tests on the system. The system comprises a software frontend and backend, mobile apps, and the physical device.

  • Participates in internal design meetings to architect solutions and review design tradeoffs
  • Documents user stories, design approach, test cases for developed software functions under the direction of senior team members
  • May prototype a new function or new technology through small projects/tasks to prove technical direction before embarking on full scale development
  • Embraces the idea of "simple with layered complexity" versus "complex and delayering to the simple"
  • Embraces building the "functional" first followed by the aesthetically pleasing
  • Embraces "getting the fails done" to prove a new technology before deploying the new technology
  • Is a craftsman continuously tinkering with new technology and developing an understanding of how best to apply a new technology
  • Exercises some independent judgement related to technical decisions while being comfortable with seeking input from senior team members
  • Develops prototypes and concepts and makes recommendations to manager
  • Assists as needed on development projects, testing and use case writing
  • Familiar with basic programming constructs and languages such as C, C++, Javascript, C#, Angular JS
  • Microsoft .NET framework or similar familiarity
  • Microsoft Azure PaaS or like familiarity is a plus but not required
  • Experience in designing/developing web applications, middle layer business logic/database design and/or mobile applications is a plus
  • Develops tools as needed to aid in the analysis and solving of problems

Qualifications
  • Working toward B.S in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent
  • Demonstrated interest in continuous development through project work, new technology adoption
  • Familiar with Agile (scrum) software development methodologies
  • Exercises self-control and demonstrates maturity in dealing with people and product issues
  • Demonstrates enthusiasm, interest in learning how to build production-level software
  • Willing to participate in code development, peer code reviews, user experience/story creation/documentation, test case writing, and execution on both websites and apps with physical hardware.
